Jurgen Klopp, manager of Liverpool, has spoken out against Cristiano Ronaldo's return to Manchester United, stating why he is 'not happy about it.
Jurgen Klopp, the manager of Liverpool, has acknowledged that he is "not thrilled" with Manchester United re-signing Cristiano Ronaldo.
Despite having already signed Raphael Varane and Jadon Sancho earlier in the window, United swooped in late to grab the five-time Ballon d'Or winner on a two-year deal.
Ronaldo was ready to return to the Premier League and join Manchester City with less than a week until the transfer window closed. However, United was hesitant to let one of their best-ever players join their cross-city rivals and moved in swiftly, securing a deal with Juventus only four days before the window ended.
Ronaldo's brace against Newcastle United at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon has substantially boosted the Reds' Premier League championship chances, with the Portuguese star having been seen as the missing element in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's arsenal.
However, for Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, Ronaldo's return to United has not made him pleased, and he has stated that he was "surprised" that he chose to leave Juventus.
Klopp told Sky Sports: 'I'm glad he's at United.' No, I'm afraid I can't say that.
When the Liverpool head coach was about the superstar asked if he was "too excellent a player," the German-born coach said, 'Unfortunately, yes.'
I was astonished, not because he ended up joining United, but because I initially heard rumors about him wanting to leave Juventus. That was completely unknown to me. I was shocked since I am not in the Juventus circle and am only seldom informed about what is going on there.
He was heading to City, and I thought to myself, "Oh, that might be interesting for United," and then United stepped in and accomplished it.
Everything is good. They can do anything they want in a free world.
