Transfer News: Barcelona eye Manchester United defender to replace Jordi Alba

Barcelona is interested in Manchester United star Victor Lindelof. Jordi Alba's successor has been named Alex Telles.

Catalan news outlet El Nacional (via Manchester Evening News) reports that Barcelona has identified Manchester United defender Alex Telles as a potential replacement for Jordi Alba in their transfer pursuits. Recent performances have seen Telles temporarily take over as the primary left-back in the team, replacing Luke Shaw, who had previously held the position.

With a transfer fee of £13.6million plus £1.8million in add-ons, the 29-year-old joined Manchester United from Porto in 2020. During his stint with the Red Devils, he has appeared in 32 games and has contributed one goal and four assists to the cause. Following a good spell in Portugal, he found it difficult to get any playing time under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's regime.

Solskjaer favored Shaw to the Brazilian, although the latter did put in some strong performances when called upon by the Norwegian coach. It has improved under Rangnick, thanks to a combination of good fortune and his offensive approach, which is a good fit for our present system.

It is quite unlikely to occur.

Given the current state of affairs, it is difficult to imagine the club generating such enthusiasm for itself. Left-back tandem would push each other to be better, and the German manager would make sure that minutes were made available to whoever impressed him the most on the pitch. In such a situation, it would not be wise for us to intentionally weaken ourselves unless we had a substitute in mind.

We will be engaged in a number of contests during the season, and we will require the support of all of our players to see us through it. The campaign will go for a long time, and there will be several roadblocks along the way. As the scenario dictates, we would have to employ the duo to keep them fresh until the finish of the game.

Not to mention the fact that the current Covid scenario makes it more critical that we should not reduce the size of our team in the near term. The interim coach has not yet completed a thorough evaluation of his resources, and he will require additional time to complete the specific work at hand. It would be counterproductive to make changes to the team before fully comprehending what the players have to contribute.

Take a deeper look at the Blaugrana and you will see that they are in financial trouble and will want all of the funds they can collect in order to compete in the upcoming season. Those who have followed them know that they have attempted to return to their origins and encourage young people from La Masia in order to assist them in their current predicament.

In the opinion of Telles, it does not appear prudent for him to abandon this fascinating project under Rangnick for a club like Barcelona, which is not in the greatest of financial health. Because he isn't just a backup to Shaw any longer, he is finally earning minutes on a consistent basis, and it will only make sense if we continue with him until he provides us with a compelling reason to switch.
